E-MINDER: the Church of the Incarnation

THE WEEK OF MARCH 8 - MARCH 15, 2009

Thomas Merton painting by Victor Hammer

In yesterday's Lenten lecture, "Inreach: Looking to God for Freedom," the Rector quoted Thomas Merton.  What follows are two Merton quotes, from his book No Man is an Island, that I believe fit the themes explored in the lecture.  Please send me quotes you look to for spiritual nourishment and inspiration, and I will include them in upcoming E-minders in Lent.

"The first step toward finding God, Who is Truth, is to discover the truth about myself: and if I have been in error, this first step to truth is the discovery of my error."

"Our choices must really be free — that is to say they must perfect us in our own being. ... We must make the choices that enable us to fulfill the deepest capacities of our real selves."
